Formula 1 Grand Prix Report
March 9th, 2004
Once again, Aerosweep's FOD*BOSS sweepers were contracted to sweep Melbourne's Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit at Albert Park.
This year Albert Park track management also requested a pre-race sweep to collect debris which had accumulated around the track from the 4 lead up races on the Sunday morning.
One Duplex system and 1 single system were used to cover the entire racing surface. Because time was of the essence, only 2 laps were completed, but in those 2 laps using a total of 3 FOD*BOSS' a staggering 38kg of debris was collected. This is a considerable amount of debris buil-up given that the track had previously been swept clean in the morning removing over 100kg of debris.
Over the four days of the event a total of just under 500Kg of debris was removed from the track. It mostly consisted of dust/sand, gravel, rubber and leaves, but as usual there were the odd pieces of nuts and bolts, bottle tops, car bits and washers.
We look forward to taking part again in 2005.
Triplex System for Gold Coast Airport, Queensland
February 23rd, 2004
Gold Coast Airport in Queensland, Australia have recently purchased a triplex FOD* BOSS speed sweeping system to replace the ageing suction type sweeper used previously to clean FOD from runways, taxiways and aprons. The Gold Coast Airport decided on the Triplex system because of its speed and efficiency in collecting Foreign Objects, and because of the huge cost saving in purchasing, maintaning and operating the system.
Melbourne Formula 1 Grand Prix
March 15th, 2003
During the 2003 Formula 1 Grand Prix in Melbourne, Australia, the FOD* BOSS played a significant role once again in collecting debris from the race track each morning before the first session of racing. Over 500kg was collected over the four day event from the two FOD* BOSS units between 6:00am and 8:30am.The debris ranged from stones, bolts, wire, plastics and leaves, but was mostly made up of sand and dirt. This is the largest amount collected over the 6 years we have been sweeping the circuit. We believe this is due to the drought conditions experienced in Melbourne at the time.
Bruce Keys from Confederation of Australian Motorsport (CAMS) said "CAMS national track safety committee continue to be impressed with the amount of foreign objects which the FOD* BOSS picks up after each collection session at Albert Park (Melbourne Formula 1 circuit), especially considering the simplicity of the unit and its ease of use"
Special thanks to track managers Halliburton KBR, and to David Antcliff in particular for their support and co-operation. Already looking forward to 2004!
